Al Ahly captured their fifth consecutive Egyptian Super Cup title with a 2-0 victory over rivals Zamalek SC at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium on Sunday, 9 November 2025.
The highly anticipated Cairo derby lived up to its reputation for intensity and drama.
Both teams began aggressively, pressing high and moving the ball quickly in search of an early advantage.
Despite the energetic start, neither side managed to find the breakthrough for much of the first half, as defensive discipline prevailed.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 44th minute, when Achraf Bencharki capitalised on a rare lapse in Zamalek’s defence to give Al Ahly a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
His goal provided the momentum the defending champions needed as they tightened their control over the match.
Following the restart, Zamalek pushed forward with determination, looking to level the score.
Their forwards tested Al Ahly’s backline repeatedly, but the reigning champions held firm under pressure.
Al Ahly’s goalkeeper made several key interventions, denying Zamalek’s efforts and maintaining his side’s narrow lead.
As Zamalek continued to commit players forward, spaces began to open up at the back.
In the 72nd minute, Marwan Attia took full advantage, slotting home Al Ahly’s second goal after a swift counterattack to extend the lead to 2-0.
The strike effectively sealed the contest, dampening Zamalek’s hopes of a late comeback.
Zamalek appeared to have found a lifeline in the 79th minute, when the ball was turned into the net following a scramble in the box.
However, after a VAR review, the goal was ruled out for offside, leaving the score unchanged.
Despite Zamalek’s persistent efforts in the closing stages, Al Ahly’s defence remained resolute until the final whistle.
The victory not only secured the club’s fifth successive Super Cup but also reaffirmed their dominance in Egyptian football.
Al Ahly’s latest triumph adds to their growing list of domestic and continental accolades, continuing a golden era for the club.
Zamalek, meanwhile, were left to rue missed opportunities and will look to regroup ahead of the next phase of their campaign.
