Saudi Arabia renews pursuit of Mohamed Salah amid Liverpool’s struggles

Former Al-Ahli winger and director of football, Sayed Abdel Hafeez, has dismissed reports suggesting Mohamed Salah could soon leave Liverpool for Saudi Arabia.

Rumours in recent weeks have linked the Egyptian star with a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League, where Al-Ahli are reportedly ready to table a huge offer.

Speculation intensified as Salah’s form this season has dipped slightly, with only four goals and three assists in 13 matches – far below his prolific standards.

However, Hafeez insists there is no substance to the story and that Salah remains focused on his career at Anfield.

“Mohamed Salah is a very big star and has done things that are difficult for any player in the Arab world to do. He’s focusing on his professional career,” Hafeez told Sport Witness.

He stressed that talk of a transfer is purely media-driven.

“Linking Salah to Al-Ahli is a media effort, and he’s a player who has honoured Egyptian football and all Arabs.

“Let’s talk realistically. Salah renewed his contract with Liverpool months ago,” he added.

Hafeez went on to clarify that no Al-Ahli official has ever discussed a potential move for Salah.

“There is no official at Al-Ahli who talked about this matter. This matter was only circulated in the media. We will focus on the team’s priorities. I wish Salah success.”

Salah, 33, signed a contract extension with Liverpool earlier this year, reaffirming his commitment to the Premier League champions.

Nonetheless, reports claim Saudi clubs are still prepared to offer him a staggering £150 million per year to make the switch.

While Liverpool’s recent form has raised questions about the team’s direction, Salah’s immediate focus appears to remain in England, where he has become one of the club’s all-time greats.
