CAF Confederation Cup: Ruthless Azam FC crush KMKM 9-0 on aggregate to reach group stage

Azam FC have secured their place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage for the first time in the club’s history after completing a resounding 9-0 aggregate victory over Zanzibar’s KMKM.

The Tanzanian giants delivered a ruthless performance in the second leg on Friday at the Azam Complex, claiming a 7-0 win to add to their 2-0 first-leg advantage.

After a controlled opening 20 minutes, Azam broke the deadlock through Tanzania international Iddy Nado, which set the tone for a dominant display. Congolese striker Jephte Kitambala struck twice in quick succession before Nado added his second to give the hosts a commanding 4-0 lead at the break.

The onslaught continued in the second half with Abdul Sopu netting a brace and Pascal Msindo also getting on the scoresheet as Azam completed the demolition job in style.

Backed by experienced Congolese tactician Florent Ibenge and a squad boasting a blend of talented local stars like Feisal “Fei Toto” Salum alongside key foreign signings, Azam FC look well-prepared to make a strong impression in the group stage.

Their supporters now eagerly await the group stage draw scheduled for November 3 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
