‘That’s least of my worries’ – Arne Slot backs Mohamed Salah to rediscover form despite goal drought
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has backed Mohamed Salah to find his scoring touch again as the Egyptian forward endures a rare goal drought.
Salah has now gone six matches without a goal and was left on the bench during Wednesday’s 5-1 Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
He came on for the final 16 minutes but could not convert several opportunities.
The 33-year-old also missed key chances in last weekend’s 2-1 Premier League defeat to Manchester United.
Slot, however, remains confident the forward will return to form, even though he cannot pinpoint the reason behind the slump.
“It’s so difficult for me to say why this is,” Slot said on Thursday. “I think in general in football players miss chances and Mo is a human being as well.
“We are not used to him missing chances, let alone a few in a row, but these things can happen.
“What could have to do with it, I have no clue if it does, but I could come up with if it’s easier to finish a chance if you are 3-1 up than if you are 1-0 down.
“But maybe that is completely not true for him. But the main thing is Mo has always scored goals for our club and the last thing I worry about is Mo starting to score goals again.”
Salah is expected to start against Brentford on Saturday evening, with Alexander Isak likely to miss out through injury.
Liverpool’s summer rebuild may also have affected the team’s attacking rhythm.
Slot noted that new arrivals such as Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz are still building chemistry, while the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid disrupted familiar patterns.
“It could,” Slot said. “Maybe his whole Liverpool career he played with Trent. Everyone has to find new connections again.”
The Reds boss added that injuries and rotation have limited consistency but maintained faith in Salah’s ability to lead the team’s resurgence in the coming weeks.
