Ghana’s Antoine Semenyo suffers Community Shield disappointment as Arsenal beat Manchester City

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo endured a disappointing outing at Wembley on Sunday as Manchester City were beaten 3-0 by Arsenal in the FA Community Shield.

The Black Stars attacker started the match and played the full 90 minutes, but could not prevent City from suffering a heavy defeat against the Gunners.

Havertz doubles advantage

Arsenal extended their lead in the 28th minute.

Christos Tzolis delivered a cross towards Kai Havertz, who connected with a header that beat Gianluigi Donnarumma to make it 2-0.

City came close to reducing the deficit before the interval when Erling Haaland collected a loose pass inside the box and fired a low effort towards the middle of the goal.

David Raya was alert, however, and made a comfortable save to deny the Norwegian striker.

Odegaard completes Arsenal victory

Arsenal added a third goal shortly after half-time.

Tzolis produced another decisive pass, finding Martin Odegaard inside the penalty area in the 48th minute.

The Arsenal captain made no mistake, firing his shot into the bottom-left corner to put the Gunners 3-0 ahead.

City could not find a response for the remainder of the match as Arsenal comfortably protected their advantage.

Semenyo completes full match

Semenyo remained on the pitch until the final whistle but was unable to influence the contest enough to inspire a Manchester City comeback.

The defeat means the Ghana international begins his latest campaign without Community Shield silverware, while Arsenal celebrate a convincing victory at Wembley.

Semenyo and City will now look to put the disappointment behind them as they turn their attention to the competitive season.
