Scoring five goals against Remo Stars was not easy – Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has reflected on his outfit emphatic victory against Remo Stars in the CAF Champions League playoff.
Remo Stars face an uphill battle in South Africa after falling short to Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg tie of the second preliminary round.
The South African giants kicked off their campaign with a commanding 5-1 victory to take full control ahead of the return clash of the second preliminary round.
Sundowns wasted no time stamping their authority on the match, with Tashreeq Matthews before Peter Shalulile doubled the advantage for the visitors, with Miguel Reisinho, Arthur Sales, and Katlego Ntsabeleng scoring to cement victory.
“We took it very seriously,” Cardoso told the media. “The first goal we scored is in one space, we knew we could use to find a free player.
“It’s not easy to play against a team that has man-to-man marking all over the pitch. To score five goals against a team that is champions of Nigeria is not easy.
“Of course, we could not have conceded any, but I think it’s fair to take this result,” the former Esperance mentor added.
The result puts Sundowns in a strong position to reach the group stages, with Remo Stars now facing a massive uphill battle. The Nigerian champions will need to pull off a 4-0 win in the return leg in South Africa next weekend to eliminate the defending PSL champions.
