Belgian-Congolese coach Kompany ‘grateful and honoured’ after signing new Bayern Munich deal

Vincent Kompany says he feels ‘grateful and honoured’ after signing a new long-term contract with Bayern Munich that will keep him at the club until 2029, extending his stay by two years beyond the original 2027 deal.

Born in Belgium to a Congolese father, Kompany has swiftly established himself as one of Europe’s most respected young coaches since joining Bayern from Burnley in the summer of 2024.

In his debut campaign, he guided the Bavarians back to the Bundesliga title before adding the German Super Cup earlier this season.

The 39-year-old has been credited with restoring unity, discipline, and attacking flair to a Bayern side that appeared to have lost direction prior to his arrival.

Under Kompany’s leadership, the team has maintained an impressive consistency both domestically and in Europe, prompting the club to move swiftly to secure his long-term future.

“I am grateful and honoured,” Kompany said after signing the new deal. “I want to thank Bayern for the trust and the working environment they have placed in me since day one.

“It feels like I’ve been here much longer, and I know the club well. We’ve embarked on a wonderful journey: let’s continue to work hard and celebrate further successes!”

Bayern president Herbert Hainer described the new agreement as a show of faith in Kompany’s leadership and the stability he has brought to the club.

“Kompany’s renewal is a strong sign of confidence in the work done so far and clearly signals continuity and stability for Bayern,” Hainer stated.

“Vincent is highly regarded by the players, management, and fans, and we are delighted with this early extension.”

Kompany’s next challenge will be guiding Bayern through a packed fixture list as they push for both domestic and European honours this season.
