Ghana'a IGP deploys special investigations team to look into death of Senegalese goalkeeper

The Inspector-General of Police in Ghana, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has dispatched a special investigations team to assist the Ashanti Regional Police Command in probing the death of Senegalese national and goalkeeper, Cheith Toure, in Kumasi.

The team is made up of homicide detectives, forensic specialists, and intelligence officers, tasked with uncovering the full circumstances leading to his death.

Preliminary investigations indicate that on 16 October 2025, an individual identified as Issah, who claimed to be the deceased’s brother, transported Toure to the Manhyia Hospital with multiple abdominal injuries. Issah alleged that Toure had been involved in a motor accident.

The victim was pronounced dead on arrival by medical officials, after which his body was transferred to the Ebenezer Mortuary at Tafo.

In an official statement, the Ghana Police Service assured the public of a comprehensive investigation.

“We would like to assure the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to unravel the case and any perpetrators brought to justice,” part of the statement said.

The incident has raised concerns, and authorities are working to establish the true cause of death and bring clarity to the matter.
