AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri hailed Rafael Leao after the Portuguese forward scored twice to inspire the Rossoneri to a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in Serie A on Sunday.
The result moved Milan closer to the summit of the league and extended their unbeaten run at San Siro.
Born in Almada to Angolan parents, Leao has often been the creative spark in Milan’s attack and once again delivered when it mattered most.
Returning from international duty with Portugal, the 26-year-old looked sharp and decisive, using his pace and technique to torment Fiorentina’s backline and secure all three points for Allegri’s side.
Speaking after the game, Allegri expressed satisfaction with Leao’s contribution and the team’s overall display.
“He’s back from international duty, he needed to regain his fitness. We’re happy with him and the whole team. He has the qualities to help us win matches,” the Milan boss told reporters.
Allegri, however, also emphasized the importance of collective effort beyond Leao’s brilliance.
“Today Fofana often came into the box, the midfielders need to score goals and we need to improve on that,” he noted, urging his players to share the scoring burden.
The coach further highlighted the significance of Milan’s position in the standings, stressing the need for consistency as the title race intensifies.
“Being top of the table is always nice. It means you’re further away from fifth place. You have to maintain your advantage over fifth place,” Allegri added.
Leao’s return to form is a major boost for Milan as they navigate a busy fixture schedule.
His brace not only underlined his status as one of Serie A’s most electrifying attackers but also reaffirmed his growing importance to Allegri’s ambitions of reclaiming domestic dominance.
