Danny Welbeck strikes late as Brighton edge Bournemouth in Premier League clash

English-Ghanaian forward Danny Welbeck says returning to the basics and shutting out distractions have been key to his resurgence at Brighton and Hove Albion this season.

The 34-year-old, who has Ghanaian heritage through his parents, has been in outstanding form, scoring four goals in his last three Premier League matches, including a decisive brace in Brighton’s 2–1 win over Newcastle United at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.

Welbeck’s late strike sealed victory after Nick Woltemade had cancelled out his first-half opener, extending Newcastle’s poor run against the Seagulls.

His composed finish from the edge of the box underscored the veteran striker’s growing influence under Roberto De Zerbi.

Reflecting on his form, Welbeck told The Argus: “I know myself and I put the pressure on myself to produce on the pitch and to do what I can do and bring what I can bring onto the pitch and off the pitch too.

“There were a few performances that I wasn’t quite happy with, but it was one of those things where you get back to the basics, you start grafting, working hard, and you don’t worry about any outside noise at all.

“I’ve got enough experience now to just knuckle down and worry about myself and do what I can do to get back to the level that I can produce.”

Welbeck has been instrumental in Brighton’s recent form, providing leadership and consistency in attack as the Seagulls continue their strong start to the Premier League campaign.
