Nigerian international Wilfred Ndidi has been named vice captain of Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas.

The Turkish club announced the decision in an official notice on Friday, October 17.

Ndidi, who joined Besiktas in the summer from Leicester City, has made an immediate impact in Turkey. The midfielder has featured in five league matches and two UEFA Conference League qualification games, earning praise for his composure, work rate, and consistency in midfield.

In the same statement, Besiktas revealed that Orkun Kökçü, who joined on loan from Benfica and is set to make his move permanent at the end of the season, has been named the new club captain.

“With the decision of our President Serdal Adalı and our Board of Directors, a change has been made regarding the captaincy of our Football A Team.

“Orkun Kökçü has been appointed as the first captain of our Football A Team, and Wilfred Ndidi as the second captain,” the statement read.

The club also expressed gratitude to former captains Necip Uysal and Mert Günok for their leadership, wishing the new captains success in their roles.

Ndidi and Kökçü are expected to lead the team for the first time when Beşiktaş face Gençlerbirliği in their upcoming Super Lig encounter on Saturday.
