LNFP hands down financial penalties to multiple Ligue 1 clubs after final-day incidents

The Tunisian National Professional Football League (LNFP) has issued a wave of financial sanctions against several Ligue 1 clubs following disciplinary breaches during the final round of the domestic championship.

The governing body confirmed on Thursday that the measures primarily relate to crowd misconduct, including the repeated throwing of objects from the stands — an issue the LNFP says it will now address with increased firmness to protect the integrity and safety of Tunisian football.

Among the clubs sanctioned, Espérance Sportive de Tunis and Jeunesse Sportive Kairouanaise were each fined 10,000 dinars, the heaviest penalties on the list.

The LNFP said the punishments reflect the seriousness of the incidents recorded during their respective matches.

Olympique de Béja was handed a fine of 7,500 dinars, while Union Sportive Monastirienne will have to pay 5,000 dinars.

Avenir Sportif de Gabès received the smallest penalty, at 2,500 dinars, but the League emphasized that even minor infractions will not go unpunished in future rounds.

These disciplinary actions are part of a broader effort by the LNFP to clamp down on recurring crowd disturbances, particularly those involving the throwing of projectiles — a growing problem in several stadiums across the country.

The League reiterated its stance that ensuring player and spectator safety remains an absolute priority and that clubs are responsible for maintaining order within their venues.

In a separate matter, the LNFP also announced that it had postponed its decision on the appeal filed by Avenir Sportif de Gabès against Club Sportif Sfaxien.

The ruling was deferred following a request from the legal representatives of CS Sfaxien, who sought additional time to prepare their defense. A new hearing date will be determined in the coming days.

The League’s latest round of sanctions underscores its zero-tolerance approach to indiscipline and aims to set a precedent as the domestic football season concludes.

The LNFP has faced mounting pressure from fans and stakeholders to enforce stricter disciplinary measures after several high-profile incidents disrupted recent matches.

As clubs prepare for the upcoming campaign, the League’s message is clear — any behavior that jeopardizes the spirit of fair play or endangers participants will be met with swift and significant financial consequences.
