Marcellin Bocové elected new Benin Football Federation president in landslide victory

Marcellin Bocové has been elected president of the Benin Football Federation (FBF), taking over from Mathurin De Chacus after securing an overwhelming victory in Tuesday’s election.

A total of 79 delegates took part in the vote, with Bocové receiving 76 votes to secure the presidency by a commanding margin.

He will serve a four-year term from 2026 to 2030 and is now tasked with delivering his vision for the development and modernisation of football in Benin.

Bocové’s programme places strong emphasis on youth development, improved administration and the professionalisation of domestic competitions. He also wants clubs to become more financially independent while strengthening the overall structure of the federation.

One of his key priorities will be improving the performance of Benin’s national teams. The new FBF boss plans to enhance the identification and development of young players and establish three additional football training centres across the country.

Bocové has also indicated that he intends to draw lessons from the football development models of Senegal and Ivory Coast as he seeks to raise the standard of the game in Benin.

His four-year tenure is therefore expected to focus heavily on grassroots development, talent development, professional competitions and institutional reforms as he begins a new chapter for Beninese football.
