Al Ahly president Mahmoud El-Khatib has called for an emergency meeting of the club’s planning committee, scheduled for Tuesday at the main club headquarters on Gezira island.

Despite no big agenda items, following the recent hiring of Danish head coach Jess Thorup, this sudden meeting has grabbed attention across the club.

A source inside Al Ahly explained to Kooora, “There isn’t a set agenda, and there’s nothing urgent to discuss yet—Thorup still needs more time to evaluate the squad and potential departures.” However, club insiders suggest three possible scenarios for the meeting: deciding new contract terms for players with expiring deals, planning for possible changes to the administrative structure, or briefing the current committee before a new board is elected on October 31.

The committee, led by Mokhtar Mokhtar, is curious if Sid Abdel Hafiz, now a board candidate, will attend after joining the last meeting during Thorup’s appointment. The club is also dealing with logistical updates, as the new coach’s full foreign staff is arriving, while Thorup’s first training session has been repeatedly postponed to allow international players time to rest after their national matches.

The club will resume training tomorrow, focusing on their upcoming CAF Champions League match in Burundi.
