Burkina Faso beat Ethiopia in final World Cup qualifier
Burkina Faso delivered an outstanding performance to defeat Ethiopia in their final 2026 World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia on Sunday.
Putting on a stellar performance, the Stallion of Burkina Faso cruised to a 3-1 home victory over Ethiopia at the Stade du 4 Août.
Despite not securing World Cup berth, the victory ensured Burkina Faso finish as the second best team in Group A, with Egypt booking a place at the biggest soccer mundial to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The first half of the much-anticipated clash ended in a pulsating goalless draw, with both teams struggling to find the back of the net.
However, it was Burkina Faso, who emerged victorious in the second half with an eye pleasing performance against Ethiopia.
Burkina Faso broke the deadlock in the 65th-minute mark though Pierre Landry Kabore before he doubled the advantage for the host in the 82nd minute.
Two minutes later, the visitors pulled one back through Biniam Ayten before Pierre Landry Kabore grabbed his third goal of the match to cement victory for the home team.
The Pharaohs of Egypt finished on top of Group A with 26 points, followed by Burkina Faso (21 points), Sierra Leone (15), Guinea-Bissau (10), Ethiopia (9), and Djibouti (1 point).
