Samuel Umtiti honoured by French Football Federation
Former France international of Cameroonian descent Samuel Umtiti has been honoured by the French Football Federation after recently calling it a quit from professional football.
Not long ago, the former Barcelona star confirmed his retirement from professional football, bringing an end to his illustrious 13-year career.
Umtiti enjoyed a brilliant career, featuring for Barcelona and tasting World Cup glory with the French national team.
His journey could have been even brighter had it not been persistent injuries, calling it a quit at age 31. Umtiti parted ways with Ligue 1 side Lille at the end of last season, and despite attracting interest from clubs, the defender has announced his retirement from the game.
However, the former defender has been hpnoured by the French Football Federation, with Umtiti receiving a special award.
Umtiti was presented with a commemorative souvenir featuring his legendary number five, the number he wore for Les Bleus, before France World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan.
The 31-year-old warmly embraced his former national teammates, with whom he once lifted the 2018 World Cup trophy before the game got underway.
Umtiti played for Lyon, Barcelona, Lecce, and Lille. During his career, the Frenchman made 362 club appearances and earned 31 caps for the national team, with whom he celebrated World Cup glory in 2018.
