Six key players withdraw from Super Eagles squad ahead of Russia friendly

The Super Eagles of Nigeria continued their preparations for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic on Tuesday with 18 players in camp.

Exciting young defender Benjamin Fredrick is the latest to join the team, as confirmed by media officer Promise Efoghe. His arrival increases the number of players in Polokwane to 18 as the Super Eagles step up preparations for the crucial double-header.

Among those already in camp are captain William Troost-Ekong, Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Terem Moffi, and Frank Onyeka.

Others include Bruno Onyemaechi, Tolu Arokodare, Semi Ajayi, Chrisantus Uche, and goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali, Adebayo Adeleye, and Amas Obasogie.

The team held its first training session on Tuesday evening in Polokwane ahead of Friday’s encounter with Lesotho.

They will then return home to host Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday, October 14.

With just two matches remaining, Nigeria currently sit third in Group C with 11 points, three behind leaders Benin Republic and South Africa.

The Super Eagles will be targeting maximum points in both fixtures to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
