Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi has conceded that Mexico were the better side after the Atlas Lions’ 1-0 loss in their final Group C match on Saturday.

Despite the setback, Morocco still topped the group, securing their place in the Round of 16.

“We tried, but we didn’t succeed,” Ouahbi said after the game. “We must continue to improve as we prepare for the knockout stage. The Mexicans were better than us today. The match was decided on small details, second balls, and duels, which they won more often than we did.”

The coach also expressed frustration over a yellow card shown to Ali Maamar and what he felt was insufficient stoppage time of just five minutes. He, however, emphasized that these factors were not to blame for the defeat.

“This loss is a reality check for us,” Ouahbi added. “It will serve as a lesson as we move forward.”

Morocco now face South Korea in the Round of 16 on Thursday at Estadio El Teniente.
