Sayed Abdel Hafiz ushers in a new era of ambition and change at Al Ahly
Sayed Abdel Hafiz, the former football director of Al Ahly, is making a noteworthy return to the club by running for a board seat on Mahmoud Khatib’s influential list in the upcoming elections.
Abdel Hafiz, away from the club for just over two years, is expected to spearhead fundamental changes aimed at reviving Al Ahly’s footballing strength.
His new role places him at the center of several pivotal issues. One immediate task is the search for a foreign head coach, following the short stint of Spanish manager Jose Riveiro. Beyond that, Abdel Hafiz is determined to restructure Al Ahly’s football operations, unifying the first team, youth sector, and the club-owned Delphi team under a cohesive strategy.
According to Kooora, there are also whispers of reshaping the football planning committee, creating a leaner group led by names like Khatib and Yassin Mansour. Abdel Hafiz is also seeking to restore the position of an active Contracts Manager, potentially filled by a former club legend.
Inspired by South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, he envisions an independent performance analytics department and eyes expanding Al Ahly’s academy network into new African markets to discover and nurture fresh talents.
As Al Ahly faces Ismaily Electricity tonight in the Egyptian Premier League, the winds of change brought by Abdel Hafiz’s leadership promise to redefine the club’s ambitions and structure for the coming years.
