Morocco’s U20 national team continued their impressive start to the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Brazil’s U20 national team on Wednesday night.

In the second Group C contest staged at Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos, both national teams put up a top performance in the first half, but neither side could find the back of the net.

The deadlock was broken in the 60th minute when Othmane Maamma scored the equaliser after being set up by Gessime Yassine. Sixteen minutes later, Yassir Zabiri turned the game on its head, calmly finishing from another Gessime Yassine assist to put Morocco 2-0 ahead.

Brazil pulled one back deep into stoppage time when Iago Teodore converted a penalty in the 91st minute, but it proved only a consolation as Morocco held firm to secure the win.

The result underlines Morocco’s strong start to the tournament and keeps their dream of conquering the world alive.

The African side is now on six points and at the top of Group C after the round two group games, having started the tournament with an emphatic 2-0 win over Spain.

They will round off their group phase matches with a final game against Mexico on Saturday, October 4.
