English-Ghanaian defender Jarell Quansah has no qualms about playing as a right-back instead of his usual centre-back role, viewing the positional change as an opportunity to broaden his skill set and become a more complete footballer.
The 23-year-old defender was forced to play at right-back during the 2026 World Cup tournament in North America following injury setbacks in the England squad. Quansah has since been playing as a right-back for both England and Bayer Leverkusen.
According to him, the switch in position has helped him discover new ways to contribute to the team, particularly in attacking phases.
“Of course, it’s a good option for me. I’m joking about it a bit. Over the last few years, I’ve discovered more of what I’m capable of, how I can influence the team offensively, and what I can contribute in attacking phases,” he said.
“I’m still learning the position and how I can improve. This will only make me a better footballer,” he added.
Meanwhile, Quansah has attracted attention from several clubs, including Real Madrid and Arsenal, following his progress since joining Leverkusen from Liverpool in the summer of 2025.
Liverpool are understood to have retained a buy-back option worth €70 million before sanctioning his move to Leverkusen, potentially giving the Premier League side an opportunity to re-sign him.
The versatile defender has been impressive for Bayer Leverkusen in the current campaign, making eight appearances, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
Quansah’s current contract with the Bundesliga outfit runs until the summer of 2030. However, interested clubs would have to spend big to secure his signature.
