Yannick Ferreira admits regret as Zamalek fall short against Al Ahly
Zamalek coach Yannick Ferreira cut a disappointed figure after his side’s painful defeat to arch-rivals Al Ahly in the Egyptian Premier League.
The Belgian tactician admitted his team failed to capitalize on their early dominance, which allowed their opponents back into the contest.
“We had two chances to score in the first 10 minutes, and then our opponents entered the game and we managed to score the opening goal. Unfortunately, we retreated too much after taking the lead,” Ferreira said.
He explained further: “In the second half, we started with late pressure and had a chance to make it 2-0, but after the missed opportunity, Al-Ahly equalized before taking the lead.”
Ferreira lamented the missed chances late on and highlighted recovery as a priority before the next fixture. He also defended striker Seif Jaziri and explained his tactical thoughts during the clash.
Despite the setback, the coach stressed that Zamalek would learn, regroup, and fight back with stronger performances in the coming matches.
