Serhou Guirassy’s injury in Mainz game not serious – Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl reveals
Sporting director of Borussia Dortmund Sebastian Kehl has provided an update on Serhou Guirassy’s injury.
Guirassy, who had sparked concern when he stepped aside before kickoff, is now expected to be available for Dortmund’s upcoming Champions League clash with Athletic Bilbao.
“It’s nothing serious. I’m very optimistic that he’ll be able to play on Wednesday,” Kehl told ZDF’s Aktuelles Sportstudio.
The 29-year-old forward had already taken a knock in last week’s 1-0 victory over Wolfsburg, where he suffered a thigh bruise after a heavy challenge. Kehl explained that the setback in Mainz was related to the same issue, but confirmed it was not severe.
With Dortmund gearing up for a crucial European tie, Guirassy’s availability comes as a major boost to Niko Kovač’s side as they look to keep momentum in both domestic and continental competitions.
Meanwhile, the striker has emerged as a transfer target for Spanish giants FC Barcelona.
