OGC Nice secure Cameroonian forward Bernard Nguene
OGC Nice have extended the contract of 19-year-old Cameroonian forward Bernard Nguene until 2029, but the club is preparing to send him out on loan in January to accelerate his development.
The Ligue 2 side confirmed the long-term deal on Friday, describing it as a statement of faith in a player who has featured in five senior matches since arriving in September 2024.
The extension ensures Nice retain control of the striker’s future at a time when interest from other clubs is expected to grow.
Nguene welcomed the new agreement, stressing how much it means to have the backing of his employers.
He said he was very happy and described the deal as a show of confidence from the club.
Despite this commitment, plans are being drawn up for Nguene to spend the second half of the season away from the Allianz Riviera.
According to sources, both the player and his representatives have been informed of the club’s intentions and have already given their approval for a loan switch.
The move is designed to guarantee him more regular minutes, which have been limited so far at Nice.
Lausanne-Sport had expressed strong interest in securing Nguene’s services during the summer transfer window, but negotiations broke down before an agreement could be reached.
That interest is expected to be revived in January, with other suitors likely to emerge as well.
By extending his contract, Nice are also safeguarding their investment.
Transfermarkt currently values the young striker at €100,000, and tying him down until 2029 ensures any potential bids will reflect his long-term potential rather than short-term availability.
Nguene’s desire to play more frequently remains at the centre of discussions.
While he has shown glimpses of his ability in limited appearances, the competition for attacking places at Nice is fierce.
A loan spell, particularly at a club willing to hand him regular starts, is seen as the best way to accelerate his growth and return him to Nice as a more complete player.
In the meantime, Nice are preparing for their upcoming Ligue 2 fixture against Paris FC, part of the sixth round of the French championship.
With the team keen to maintain momentum, attention will soon shift back to the pitch.
But off it, the focus remains on shaping Nguene’s future — a future the club clearly believes will be bright.
