Senegal winger Krépin Diatta to replace injured Denis Zakaria in Monaco’s Champions League squad
French Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco have decided to include Senegal international Krépin Diatta in their Champions League squad following an injury setback to captain Denis Zakaria.
Diatta, a key member of Senegal’s historic AFCON triumph was initially omitted from the Champions League squad after falling down the pecking under manager Adi Hutter.
Following injury to Zakaria, the Principality club has decided to register Diatta as a replacement for the former Chelsea midfielder.
The new UEFA rules allows clubs to replace injured players to their squad, with Monaco set to add Diatta to their ranks for the campaign.
Per the rules, Diatta could be dropped from the squad again if Denis Zakaria fully recovers from the injury setback. The former Chelsea midfielder is sidelined for about two months.
The Senegalese international came off the bench against FC Metz over the weekend, and was deployed as a right-back in the match, freeing Jordan Teze to play in midfield, where Monaco are hamstrung by a number of absences.
The 26-year-old attacker has been in the books of Monaco since 2021, with his current contract expected ti run out in summer 2026.
