New Zealand midfielder Andre de Jong’s move to Orlando Pirates falls through

South African giants Orlando Pirates could not seal a transfer deadline day move for New Zealand attacking midfielder Andre de Jong.

The Soweto giants submitted a late bid and was close to snatching the services of the talented midfielder from fellow South African side Stellenbosch FC.

However, Stellenbosch CEO, Rob Benadie in an interview with iDiski Times disclosed both parties failed to reach an agreement leading to the collapse of the transfer.

“The clubs just couldn’t reach the agreement,” said Rob Benadie.

Having missed out on the midfielder, the Soweto giants will have to rely on Sipho Mbule, Patrick Maswanganyi and Kabelo Dlamini for the number 10 role at the club.

Since joining Stellenbosch, the New Zealand attacking has made 103 appearances, scoring 16 goals and providing 11 assists. He is known for his relentless work rate and his chances creation ability.
