The Angolan Football Federation (FAF) has mutually parted ways with Portuguese coach Pedro Gonçalves after six years in charge.

The announcement comes just three months before the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Angola have been drawn alongside South Africa, Egypt, and Zimbabwe.

In a statement, FAF said: “With immeasurable gratitude and respect, the Angolan Football Federation announces that the cycle of Professor Pedro Valdemar Soares Goncalves as national team coach has come to an end.

“The Board of the Angolan Football Federation has, on its own initiative, decided to take this step, marking the closure of a chapter built with hard work, total dedication and true commitment to the national flag.

“Pedro Gonçalves was more than just a coach; he was a partner, a leader who believed in Angola’s potential and gave a face and dignity to a team that dared to dream again.”

FAF added: “To our supporters, who never stopped believing, we reaffirm that Angolan football has a future. We have prepared young players, we have identity, and we have a Nation that lives and breathes football with intensity.

“The FAF is already working to ensure that the next coach of the National Team continues this journey with renewed vision and a winning spirit.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to Professor Pedro Gonçalves and his technical team for everything – thank you for being part of our history.”

Months ago Goncalves led Angola to win the 2025 COSAFA Cup, where his side beat South Africa 3-0 in the final to secure back-to-back titles, having also triumphed in 2024.
