Al Ahly set to miss out on Swiss coach Urs Fischer amid Mönchengladbach interest
Al Ahly could miss out on appointing Swiss tactician Urs Fischer as their head coach after drawing interest from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The Egyptian giants are without a substantive coach following the sacking of Spanish trainer Jose Riveiro weeks ago after a string of unimpressive results in the current campaign.
Riveiro left Al Ahly after just four month spell at the club. His sacking stem from the club’s 2-0 home defeat to reigning CAF Champions League holders, Pyramids FC at Cairo International Stadium.
Fisher, who previously managed Union Berlin tops the lists of candidate being considered for the vacant Al Ahly job.
But the Egyptian football heavyweight risk missing out on Fischer, with Borussia Mönchengladbach being linked the experienced gaffer.
Mönchengladbach coach Gerard Seoane is in danger of losing his job following Sunday’s heavy 4-0 defeat to Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga. Fischer is said to be a candidate to lead Mönchengladbach, should an official decision be issued to dismiss Sewani in the coming hours.
Fischer previously managed Zurich and Basel in the Swiss league, as well as Union Berlin in Germany.
Al-Ahly is looking for a foreign coach to lead the team, in light of the club’s declining results this season. Currently, the Egyptian giants are ranked 15th on the league standings after six matches into the campaign.
