Ivorian forward Yohan Boli has explained his decision to join Turkish side Antalyaspor, highlighting the club’s professionalism and ambition as the decisive factors behind his return to European football.
The 31-year-old ended a five-year spell in Qatar this summer, opting to sign a two-year contract with Antalyaspor that runs until June 2025.
The move marks a fresh chapter for the striker, who previously enjoyed success with Sint-Truiden in Belgium before moving to the Middle East.
Boli revealed that, despite receiving concrete offers from other clubs – including strong interest from Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab – he was convinced by Antalyaspor’s long-term vision and competitive outlook.
“Antalyaspor showed me a clear vision, a professional staff, and real ambition. This made me want to join the club,” Boli told Africafoot in a recent interview.
The striker, who has represented the Ivory Coast at international level, said his decision was not purely about returning to Europe but about aligning himself with a project that matched his personal objectives.
“My goals are clear: score goals, help the team win and make the fans proud,” he added, stressing his determination to make an immediate impact in the Turkish Süper Lig.
Boli’s arrival has been seen as a statement of intent by Antalyaspor, a club eager to strengthen its attacking options and establish itself more firmly among Turkey’s top-flight contenders.
His experience across different leagues and his proven eye for goal are expected to play a key role in the Scorpions’ campaign.
The forward made his debut for the club last Saturday during the fifth round of the Turkish league season, featuring in Antalyaspor’s 2-1 victory over Samsunspor.
While he did not get on the scoresheet, his performance was closely watched by supporters eager to see what he will bring to the team in the coming months.
Boli’s market value, currently estimated at €2 million by Transfermarkt, reflects both his pedigree and the expectation that he can be a decisive figure for Antalyaspor.
The Ivorian’s ability to adapt quickly to Turkish football will be crucial, particularly as the club looks to build momentum in what is expected to be a competitive season.
For Boli, the move represents more than just a return to European football – it is a chance to re-establish himself at a high level after years in the Gulf leagues.
During his time in Qatar, he built a strong reputation as a reliable striker, but the lure of a more competitive environment and the opportunity to test himself again on European soil ultimately proved decisive.
Antalyaspor’s leadership has been vocal about its desire to challenge at the top end of the Süper Lig, and the acquisition of Boli fits within that broader strategy.
With a blend of experienced internationals and promising talents, the club is seeking to balance immediate results with sustainable progress.
As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on how quickly Boli settles into his new surroundings.
His ambition to deliver goals and galvanise Antalyaspor’s attack could prove pivotal not only in the club’s quest for domestic success but also in cementing his own legacy after an already well-travelled career.
