How Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson forced through Bayern Munich move after Chelsea row
Bayern Munich completed the signing of Senegalese forward Nicolas Jackson in dramatic fashion after a tense standoff with Chelsea threatened to derail the move on deadline day.
The Bundesliga giants had insisted that Jackson undergo his medical in Munich on Monday, even as his representatives continued talks with Chelsea over a loan release.
Chelsea initially granted permission for the striker to travel, but the arrangement hit turbulence when Liam Delap sustained a hamstring injury in the Blues’ win over Fulham on Saturday. Concerned about losing depth in attack, Chelsea moved quickly to block Jackson’s departure.
The club ordered the striker to return to London, but Jackson refused to comply, standing firm on his desire to complete the switch.
His camp then resumed discussions with Chelsea officials in an effort to persuade the club to honour the agreement.
According to BILD, while negotiations dragged on, Bayern pressed ahead with the medical examination early on Monday.
The German champions gambled that Chelsea would eventually soften their stance — a move that proved decisive.
By the time Chelsea relented and cleared the transfer, Bayern already had the medical completed, allowing them to finalise paperwork just before the window closed.
The deal was sealed in time, bringing Jackson to the Allianz Arena in one of the deadline day’s most dramatic turnarounds.
“I’m really happy to now be part of this great club,” Jackson said after signing.
“Bayern is one of the best clubs in the world. Everyone knows the names of the legends who’ve played here and knows that this club stands for the greatest success. I’ve got big goals and dreams here and will give my all to help Bayern win further titles.”
