Morocco international Azzedine Ounahi is on the brink on joining Spanish outfit Girona from Marseille in the current summer transfer window.
The French Ligue 1 outfit are finally set to offload the 25-year-old midfielder, who is said not to be part of Roberto De Zerbi plans.
Ounahi is set to join Girona on a permanent deal in a deal worth over €6m. The former SCO Angers midfielder had been training away from the first team in anticipation of a departure.
The transfer fee is significantly below Marseille’s initial €12m asking price, however, to make up the difference, Marseille have included a handsome sell-on percentage.
The Morocco star is keen on the move and had made a transfer to La Liga a priority.
Ounahi spent last season at Panathinaikos, where he got his career back on track, making 37 appearances and being elected fans’ player of the season. Previously, he had struggled at OM, having made the move after his breakout tournament for Morocco at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
However, Panathinaikos are unable to afford the €11.5m purchase option included in the loan deal. He will therefore return to Marseille, where he does not have a future under Roberto De Zerbi.
