Stade Rennes step up pursuit of Malian striker Moussa Sylla

Stade Rennais are in advanced discussions to secure the signing of Malian international Moussa Sylla as they look to bolster their attack before the close of the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old forward, currently with Schalke 04 in Germany’s 2. Bundesliga, has become a prime target for Rennes manager Habib Beye, who is keen to add a proven goalscorer to his squad.

Sylla’s profile and consistency have made him one of the most sought-after strikers on the market.

Valued at around €6 million, Sylla enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, scoring 16 goals in 28 matches across all competitions.

His performances have not only caught Rennes’ attention but also sparked interest from clubs across Europe.

Leicester City are believed to be the strongest rival to Rennes in the chase, with reports suggesting the English club are preparing an €8 million bid to tempt Schalke into selling.

Sylla remains under contract with the German side until June 2028, giving him significant leverage in deciding his next move.

The striker, who began his professional career at AS Monaco, is the younger brother of former Mali captain Yacouba Sylla.

His progress has long been monitored by several high-profile clubs, including Juventus, Inter Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Valencia, Sevilla, Anderlecht, West Ham and Swansea.

Rennes, who face Angers in their third Ligue 1 fixture this weekend, hope to finalise talks swiftly in order to strengthen their squad as they push for a strong domestic campaign.

Sylla’s decision in the coming days could prove pivotal, with Rennes and Leicester both determined to secure his signature before the transfer deadline.
