Former Moroccan international Khalid Boutaib says his decision to return home and feature in the Botola Pro was driven purely by conviction.

The 38-year-old striker penned a one-year deal with Kawkab Marrakech in the ongoing summer transfer window, marking his first spell in the Moroccan top flight.

“This step came after careful thought. At this age, I cannot afford to make decisions lightly,” the former Zamalek forward told Kooora.

“I chose Kawkab after talks with other clubs because I was convinced by the club’s project, its ambitions, and the passion of its fans. I’m very happy with the decision.”

Boutaib, who previously played for Zamalek in Egypt, added that the move was a chance to bring his experience back home.

“I’ve played in Africa and the Arab world, but now I feel it’s the right time to represent a Moroccan side. I hope my presence at Kawkab makes the desired impact.”

Looking ahead, the veteran striker tipped the Botola to be highly competitive in the new season.

“With several new stadiums set to open, I believe the level of the league will be very high. I also hope the national team wins the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which would give Moroccan football another big boost,” he said.

Kawkab Marrakech, coached by Reda Hakam, sealed their return to the Moroccan Premier League this year after six seasons in the second tier.
