CHAN 2024: Madagascar defeat Kenya on penalties to book place in semi-final
Madagascar are through to the semi-final of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after overcoming Kenya in the quarter-finals.
After the group stage action in the tournament, the knockout games are underway, with fans rallying behind their teams in hopes of making it to the final.
Today, two quarter-final matches are being played.
In the first quarter-final match, Kenya locked horns with Madagascar at Moi International Sports Centre.
Both teams put up a good performance in the first half, making it clear of their intent to secure victory.
However, with the attacks of the teams failing to equalize, the first half ended in a stalemate.
Three minutes into the second half, Kenya took the lead through a strike from Alphonce Omija.
Unfortunately, the team could not guard the lead, leaving Madagascar to restore parity in the 69th minute when Fenohasina Razafimaro converted a penalty kick.
With the scoreline level at full-time, the game went into extra time but neither side could find the winner.
Down to penalties, the players of Madagascar showed nerves of steel, securing a 4-3 win to book their place in the semi-final.
