Newcastle United target Goncalo Ramos as potential replacement for Swedish-Eritrean forward Alexander Isak
Premier League outfit Newcastle United have targeted Paris Saint Germain forward Goncalo Ramos as a potential replacement for Sweden international of Eritrean descent Alexander Isak in the current window.
Isak has been pushing for a move away from Newcastle United in the current transfer window, with Liverpool expressing keen interest in the attacker.
Newcastle’s effort to renew Isak’s contract has proven futile. However, the Magpies has set sights on securing a new striker for the 2025/26 football campaign, with Portugal international and PSG forward Gonçalo Ramos attracting a serious interest.
The English club is aiming to bring in two strikers this offseason, with Ramos high on their shortlist.
Isak’s transfer saga is far from resolved. However, Newcastle want to ensure their attacking options remain strong and see Ramos as the ideal alternative to the Swedish-Eritrean. Ramos’s clinical finishing is one of his standout qualities—something Newcastle manager Eddie Howe values highly.
Last season, Gonçalo Ramos featured in 46 matches for PSG (1,811 minutes), scoring 19 goals and providing 6 assists.
Ramos productivity is impressive, averaging a goal involvement every 72 minutes. His current contract with the Parisians runs until June 2028.
Meanwhile, Isak is in trouble at Newcastle United after missing the club’s season opener against Aston Villa.
He was not available when Newcastle United shared the spoils with Aston Villa in Premier League opener on Saturday as he continue to push for a move this summer.
The Magpies plans to discipline Isak for breaching club rules. As stipulated in his contract, Isak is expected to receive a fine from the Premier League club.
Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 for €70 million and has since played 109 matches, scoring 62 goals and providing 11 assists.
