Sudan showed impressive form in front of goal on Tuesday evening, tearing apart Nigeria with a 4-0 victory in their encounter at the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The national teams of the two countries locked horns today in their second match at the ongoing tournament.
Nigeria, after losing their first match, needed to win to improve chances of going through to the knockout stage.
Unfortunately, they faced off with a determined Sudan side that drew their first match, and also needed the three points.
In the crucial match played at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar City, Nigeria struck first in the 22nd minute, but Anthony Ijoma’s goal was chalked off due to an offside.
Just three minutes later, Sudan equalised through Leonard Ngenge to take the lead.
In the final minutes of the half, Sudan doubled their lead thanks to a penalty kick converted by Walieldin Khidir.
Despite the best efforts of Nigeria in the second half, they could not turn things around.
Sudan caused further damage with Abdelrazig Omer grabbing a sensational brace to power his team to a 4-0 win at full-time.
The win has taken Sudan to the top of the Group D standings at the 2025 CHAN, while Nigeria sits bottom of the log.
