Ahmed Mostafa Zizo’s name echoed through Cairo International Stadium on Monday night, but not in celebration.

The former Zamalek star, now wearing Al Ahly’s colors, became the target of bitter chants from his old supporters as the White Castle began their Egyptian Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win over Ceramica Cleopatra.

For much of the match, the focus stayed on the pitch. Nasser Maher broke the deadlock in the 84th minute, sparking roars from the stands. Deep into stoppage time, Mohamed Shehata seized on a costly error when Ceramica goalkeeper Mohamed Bassam strayed too far, calmly slotting home to seal three precious points.

But as the final whistle blew, the joy quickly shifted into hostility. Fans sang in unison, mocking Zizo with: “Who’s hungry? Zizo,” a stinging reminder of their anger over his summer switch to their fiercest rivals.

The hostility has been brewing since Zizo stopped attending training in early April, a move that pushed Zamalek’s management to lodge a formal complaint with the Disciplinary Committee in May.
