Celta Vigo move for Couhaib Driouech takes shape as PSV agree €8m deal

PSV have reached an agreement with Celta Vigo over the permanent transfer of Couhaib Driouech, with the Spanish club set to pay €8m for the 24-year-old Moroccan winger.

The deal, reported by Dutch newspapers Eindhovens Dagblad and De Telegraaf, will bring Driouech’s time at PSV to an end. The player still needs to agree personal terms with Celta Vigo before the move can be completed.

Driouech has been left out of the PSV squad for Sunday afternoon’s home match against FC Groningen as he is given time to finalise the transfer.

The winger had appeared set to join Rangers FC earlier in the transfer window, but that move collapsed at the last moment after a problem was identified with his fitness. He will now leave Eindhoven for a move to La Liga instead.

Earlier this month, Driouech explained his version of events surrounding the failed switch to Rangers FC.

“I think there was a disagreement between the doctors. I had a small tear in my thigh. I think it got worse because I received a knock to my knee that week, which caused a haematoma,” said the attacker.

“I had no influence on their decision. I would have thought it was an excellent transfer.”

PSV have agreed to allow Driouech to remain away from the squad while negotiations with Celta Vigo are completed. The €8m fee has been settled between the clubs, leaving the player’s agreement with the Spanish side as the remaining step in the process.

The proposed move offers Driouech the chance to continue his career in Spain after his anticipated transfer to Rangers FC was abandoned. The Scottish club had been his apparent destination earlier in the window, but the medical concerns prevented that deal from going through.

His absence from PSV’s squad for the meeting with FC Groningen indicates that the club expects the transfer process to be concluded shortly. Driouech is therefore set to depart the Dutch side and join Celta Vigo once the outstanding terms have been agreed.
