CHAN 2025: Uganda thumps Guinea 3-0 to record first win at tournament
Uganda made a crucial step towards advancing to the knockout stage of the 2025 CAF TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Friday evening after recording their first win at the tournament.
The Ugandans today faced off with Guinea in their second Group C match at the tournament.
In the match played at Nelson Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, the Guineans were no match for Uganda.
The Ugandans dominated the contest and led at halftime thanks to a goal by Reagan Mpande in the 31st minute after he was assisted by Joel Sserunjogi.
After recess, Uganda continued to press forward and doubled their lead in the 63rd minute when the team was awarded a penalty kick. Allan Okello accepted the responsibility from 12 yards and equalised to make it 2-0.
Late in the 90th minute, Ahimbisibwe grabbed the third goal to seal a delightful 3-0 win for Uganda.
The win has propelled Uganda to second in the Group C standings with three points after two matches, the same as Guinea in third position.
