AFC Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola says he is counting on Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo to be a key figure in the club’s plans for the upcoming Premier League season.
The 24-year-old attacker has committed his future to the Cherries by signing a contract extension that will keep him at the Vitality Stadium until 2030, despite attracting interest from several clubs during the summer transfer window.
Semenyo enjoyed a breakout season in 2024/25, netting 13 goals and providing five assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. His impressive form has continued into pre-season, giving Iraola added belief that the forward is ready to take on an even bigger role.
“Antoine is someone that has been, I would say, not just last year, last two years that I’ve been here with him. He had been progressing a lot, year to year, starting lower divisions, getting to the Premier League, improving every season, playing more, having better stats, being more important for the team, so I hope he can continue this progression,” Iraola said.
The Spanish coach also praised Semenyo’s evolving leadership qualities, pointing to his discipline and maturity on and off the pitch.
“I hope he can continue this progression and even help us because he’s acquired some experience. I hope he can give us some leadership. If he can continue playing like he’s playing. Last season, he was so important for us because of the numbers, the work he does for the team.”
Semenyo will be hoping to pick up where he left off when Bournemouth open their 2025/26 Premier League campaign against Liverpool.
