The Algerian national team for local players has officially concluded its intensive training camp at the National Technical Centre in Sidi Moussa, capping off preparations with a light session on Thursday evening before departing for Uganda to compete in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Led by head coach Majid Bougherra, the session was deliberately kept light, aimed at reducing fatigue and maintaining player sharpness after weeks of rigorous physical and tactical work.
The mood was buoyant among the squad, who appeared focused, energized, and eager to begin their continental campaign with high expectations.
“The players held a light training session on Thursday evening at the National Technical Center in Sidi Moussa, before heading to Uganda to participate in the continental tournament, which will begin in early August.”
With their sights firmly set on a deep run in the tournament, Algeria’s local-based national team will now enter the final phase of preparations in Kampala.
The squad is scheduled to arrive in the Ugandan capital within hours, where they will settle in and gear up for a challenging group stage against some of Africa’s most competitive sides.
“The national team will travel to the Ugandan capital, Kampala, in the coming hours, where it will undergo the final stage of preparations before entering the official competition, in a strong group that includes heavyweight teams.”
Drawn into Group 3, Algeria will face hosts Uganda, South Africa, Guinea, and Niger. Their tournament opener is set for Monday, August 4, against Uganda at 8:00 PM local time at Mandela National Stadium, a high-stakes match that could set the tone for the rest of the competition.
“The Greens will kick off their campaign on Monday, August 4, with an exciting match against the hosts and their fans at 8:00 PM at Mandela National Stadium in the capital, Kampala.”
Following that, Algeria will take on South Africa on August 8 at 5:00 PM, again at Mandela National Stadium.
The team is exempt from third-round play and will return to action on August 15 against Guinea at 8:00 PM.
They will conclude the group stage with a clash against Niger on August 18 at 8:00 PM in Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.
With the group stage packed with formidable opponents, the coming weeks will test the mettle of the “Greens,” who are determined to make a significant impact on the 2024 CHAN stage.
