Senegalese goalkeeper Bingourou Kamara departs Pau FC after two seasons as club captain

Senegalese goalkeeper Bingourou Kamara departs Pau FC after two seasons as club captain

Pau FC have confirmed the departure of their first-choice goalkeeper and club captain, Bingourou Kamara, bringing an end to his two-year spell with the French side.

The 28-year-old Senegalese international joined the Ligue 2 outfit in 2023 and quickly established himself as a cornerstone of the team, both on and off the pitch.

Revered for his leadership and consistency between the posts, Kamara has now left the club as a free agent and is expected to embark on a new chapter in his career.

In an official statement released across Pau FC’s platforms, the club expressed gratitude for Kamara’s commitment and influence during his time in Béarn.

“Thank you, Bingourou! You have left a lasting legacy in one of the most vital roles at Pau FC. As the final line of defence, you were an exemplary leader—respected, listened to, and unwavering in your dedication,” the message read.

“The club extends its heartfelt thanks and wishes you all the best in your future endeavours.”

Kamara’s impact at Pau extended beyond the pitch. Appointed captain shortly after his arrival, he played a central role in building team unity and maintaining stability during key phases of the club’s recent campaigns.

His performances, marked by composure and reliability, earned him admiration from supporters and teammates alike.

Though Pau FC have not disclosed specific details about the reasons for Kamara’s departure, the move is believed to be mutual, allowing the goalkeeper the opportunity to pursue a new challenge.

His next destination is yet to be officially confirmed, but reports indicate that newly promoted Ligue 1 side FC Lorient are showing significant interest.

The Brittany-based club is thought to be in search of experienced reinforcements following their return to France’s top flight.

Kamara, who began his professional career at RC Strasbourg Alsace, has accumulated valuable experience in French football, including time in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.

His international career with Senegal has also added to his profile, with national team call-ups underscoring his calibre as a goalkeeper.

Throughout the 2023–2025 seasons at Pau FC, Kamara was instrumental in securing key results and served as a mentor to younger players within the squad.

His departure leaves a notable void in Pau’s dressing room, with the club now facing the challenge of finding a replacement who can replicate his presence both on and off the field.

As Kamara prepares for the next stage of his professional journey, speculation around a move to Lorient continues to circulate, though no formal agreement has been announced.

Should the transfer materialise, it would mark a return to Ligue 1 for the experienced shot-stopper and a potential step forward in his career trajectory.

For Pau FC, the focus now shifts to restructuring their squad ahead of the new season. The club is expected to explore several options in the transfer market to fill the leadership and goalkeeping role vacated by Kamara.

Bingourou Kamara leaves Pau FC with the respect of the club and its supporters, closing a chapter defined by professionalism, consistency, and quiet leadership.
