Montpellier are pushing to secure the signature of Guinea-Bissau attacker Alexandre Mendy in the ongoing summer transfer window.
Having recently being relegated to the Ligue 2, the club is bent on augmenting their squad to compete in an attempt to make a swift return to the Ligue 1.
According to reports, Montpellier are said to be closing in on a move for the Guinea-Bissau international this summer.
The 31-year-old has one year remaining on his Caen contract and has been consistently linked with a move away from the club this summer.
He has also been strongly linked to EFL Championship side Watford. However, a supposed €1m bid by Watford are wide of the mark.
Mendy joined Caen in October 2020 and became the club’s all-time leading scorer in October 2024. He has scored 76 goals in 175 appearances.
A product of the OGC Nice academy, Mendy’s career has included spells at Strasbourg, Nîmes, Guingamp, Bordeaux, and Brest.
Montpellier finished bottom of the 2024-5 Ligue 1 table, collecting just 16 points. Mendy – a proven, prolific goal scorer in Ligue 2 – could be a shrewd addition as the club seek an immediate return to the top flight.
