Terem Moffi closes in on Hamburger SV transfer

Nigerian striker Terem Moffi is close to joining Hamburger SV after the German club reportedly reached an agreement with OGC Nice over his transfer.

According to Nice-Matin, the two clubs have agreed a deal for the 27-year-old forward, although the transfer has not yet been officially completed.

Moffi now needs to reach an agreement over personal terms with Hamburger SV and pass a medical before the move can be finalised.

The potential transfer would bring the Nigeria international to Germany after several seasons in France and a difficult period that has affected his career in recent years.

Moffi has extensive experience of Ligue 1, having made 148 appearances in the French top flight. He has scored 54 goals and provided 12 assists during his time in the division.

The striker initially made his name with FC Lorient before earning a move to Nice in January 2023. The French club paid about €22.5m to sign him.

His time on the French Riviera, however, was disrupted by injury. A cruciate ligament rupture kept him out for several months during the 2024-25 season and interrupted his progress at the club.

His relationship with Nice deteriorated further in November 2025 following an altercation with supporters at the club’s training ground. Moffi subsequently filed a complaint over the incident.

The striker was later sent on loan to FC Porto in January 2026 in an attempt to revive his career.

His spell in Portugal did not produce the expected turnaround, with Moffi recording only three attacking contributions in 15 appearances.

After returning to Nice, he was left out of the first-team squad despite having a contract with the French club that runs until June 2027.

Hamburger SV are now looking to provide the forward with another opportunity to rebuild his career.

Moffi could become the German club’s seventh signing of the summer as manager Merlin Polzin looks to strengthen his attacking options.

The coach wants a striker who can provide greater physical presence and power in the penalty area, a profile that Moffi is considered capable of offering.

A move to Hamburg would also see Moffi link up with fellow striker Patson Daka, who also joined the club this summer with the aim of getting his career back on track.

Moffi’s arrival, if completed, would give him another opportunity to establish himself after a challenging period in France and Portugal.

His first weeks at Hamburger SV could prove important as the Nigerian forward looks to make a fresh start and rediscover the form that made him one of Ligue 1’s notable strikers.
