Ansu Fati is hoping to reignite his once-blossoming career after sealing a loan move from Barcelona to AS Monaco for the 2025–26 season.
The Spanish forward was officially unveiled by the Ligue 1 club on Tuesday as their latest acquisition in a summer of strategic reinforcements.
Fati, who was born in Guinea-Bissau before representing Spain at senior level, is seeking a fresh start following a difficult period of persistent injuries and limited playing time.
The 22-year-old, once hailed as Lionel Messi’s successor at the Camp Nou, now sees Monaco as the ideal stage to rediscover his form and confidence.
His move to the French side includes an option to buy for €11 million (£9.5 million), with Barcelona expected to cover a significant portion of his salary. A source close to both clubs revealed that Barça would stand to benefit from any future resale of the player.
Fati is Monaco’s third high-profile signing of the summer, joining Eric Dier and Paul Pogba in a bid to fortify the squad. The trio will be presented to the media on Thursday.
Fati made his professional debut for Barcelona at just 16 and has since played 123 games, scoring 29 goals. He helped the club win La Liga titles in 2023 and 2025, as well as two Copa del Rey crowns.
