Barcelona are on the verge of securing the signature of Spanish international Nico Williams, with a preliminary agreement reportedly in place between the club and the Athletic Bilbao winger.

After seeing their interest in Liverpool’s Luis Díaz stall, Barça quickly turned their attention to Williams, who has long been on the radar of the Catalan giants.

The 22-year-old has now emerged as the club’s top target for the summer window, with officials intent on finalising his arrival before the start of next season.

The transfer is expected to cost €58 million, matching the value of Williams’ release clause.

Despite ongoing financial strain at Camp Nou, recent reports from journalist Santi JFM suggest that negotiations have advanced significantly, with both parties now aligned on personal terms.

According to the latest updates, Barcelona have offered Williams a six-year contract, with a proposed salary package of €12 million per season.

While the club’s financial position had previously cast doubt on the feasibility of the move, progress on a deal will come as welcome news to supporters eager to see fresh attacking talent bolster the squad.

Williams, who has been impressing for Spain and is known for his dynamic wing play and close relationship with Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal, is seen as a key piece in the club’s long-term vision.

The potential link-up between the two players, already flourishing at international level, has generated considerable excitement among fans.

Should the transfer be finalised, Williams would add pace, creativity, and depth to Barcelona’s flanks—an area in need of reinforcement following several injury setbacks and inconsistencies throughout last season.

In parallel, Barcelona are also working to address other areas of concern in the squad.

With first-choice goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen set for an extended spell on the sidelines, the club has reportedly identified Joan García as a priority signing to cover the position.

The Espanyol shot-stopper’s €25 million release clause was activated on 16 June 2025, putting him in pole position for a move across the city.

Despite navigating a challenging economic landscape, Barcelona’s efforts in the transfer market suggest a determination to rebuild and compete at the highest level in both domestic and European competitions.

If confirmed, Williams’ arrival would mark a significant step in that direction.
