Spanish-Guinean forward Ansu Fati suffers fresh injury setback at Monaco
Spanish international of Guinea-Bissau descent Ansu Fati is facing another spell on the sidelines after reportedly suffering a thigh injury during AS Monaco’s Ligue 1 draw against Lille OSC on Sunday.
The Spanish forward, who missed the start of the season through injury, was forced off after just 15 minutes of action at the Stade Louis II, raising fresh concerns over his fitness and availability for the coming fixtures.
Fati had been working his way back into contention after overcoming his previous fitness problems and had shown encouraging signs in recent appearances.
The former Barcelona forward started his first Ligue 1 match of the season the previous week after coming off the bench in Monaco’s 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg on Thursday, during which he found the back of the net.
His performance earned him a place in the starting lineup for consecutive league matches, with the 22-year-old deployed in the number 10 role against Lille.
However, his return to regular action was interrupted when he appeared to sustain another injury, forcing Monaco to replace him with Mathys Detourbet after only 15 minutes.
Initial reports suggest Fati may have suffered a hamstring injury, although the full extent of the problem remains unclear pending further medical assessment.
Speaking after the match, Monaco coach Filipe Luís stressed the need to manage the forward carefully, acknowledging the importance of avoiding further complications as he continues his recovery from previous fitness issues.
The latest setback comes at a frustrating time for Fati, who has been eager to regain consistency and rediscover the form that once established him as one of Barcelona’s most promising young talents.
Having endured several injury-hit campaigns, the Spaniard is now hoping the latest problem will not keep him out for an extended period.
Monaco will await further medical examinations to determine the severity of the injury and how long the forward could be unavailable.
