Cameroon’s national football team, the Indomitable Lions, commenced their training regimen in Saudi Arabia on Monday. The initial group, comprising eight players, arrived in Jeddah on Sunday and wasted no time in hitting the training grounds at the King Abdullah Stadium in Jeddah.
Among the players present during the inaugural session were Faris Moumbagna, Leonel Ateba, Nathan Douala, Fabrice Ondoa, Malcom Bokele, Enzo Tchato, Simon Ngapandouetnbu, and Darlin Yongwa.
The 90-minute session served as a crucial warm-up as the Lions gear up for the challenging AFCON 2023, scheduled to be held in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
The training intensity is set to escalate with the imminent arrival of ten additional players on Tuesday, bringing the total number to 18.
Kevin Nkoudou, Oumar Gonzalez, Davis Epassy, Harold Moukoudi, Charles Castelletto, Christopher Wooh, Clinton Njié, Yvan Neyou, Olivier Kemen, and Nouhou Tolo are anticipated to join the training sessions.
While the team is gradually taking shape, questions linger regarding the participation of Régis Mughe. Speculation is rife about the Marseille player’s potential withdrawal from AFCON 2023, but no official statement has been issued.
The French press has been assertive in its reporting on Mughe’s decision, yet his close associates, when approached by our editorial team, opted not to comment on the matter.
As the Indomitable Lions assemble their squad for the continental showdown, the training sessions in Saudi Arabia are poised to play a pivotal role in fine-tuning their strategies and cohesion ahead of the prestigious AFCON tournament.
