Borussia Dortmund has addressed the situation after striker Serhou Guirassy shared a holiday photo on Snapchat with Kanye West’s controversial song “WW3” playing in the background.
The song, which includes disturbing references such as reading Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf, drew immediate attention. Local outlet WAZ reported that Dortmund officials quickly contacted Guirassy, who was asked to clarify the post.
The club has now released a statement explaining the incident, insisting the post was unintentional.
“Serhou Guirassy didn’t know the lyrics of the song that was offered to him to accompany a holiday photo. When we pointed out the lyrics to him, he was shocked and immediately removed the post. He very credibly distanced himself from any extremist ideas,” read the club’s statement.
Guirassy, 29, joined Dortmund with high expectations and had an impressive season, featuring in 30 Bundesliga matches. He netted 21 goals and provided two assists, helping push Dortmund through a competitive campaign.
