Simon Adingra joins Ajax in move aimed at reviving Ivory Coast winger’s career

Ajax Amsterdam have completed the signing of Sunderland winger Simon Adingra on a season-long loan, with an option to buy included in the agreement between the two clubs.

The 24-year-old Ivory Coast international was officially presented as a new Ajax player on Wednesday, returning to the Netherlands for another spell in a league he already knows.

Adingra’s move forms part of a reshaping of Sunderland’s attacking options. The English club needed to create space in their forward line after finalising the signing of Malick Fofana.

For Ajax, the deal provides an experienced attacking option as the club look to strengthen their forward group. Adingra is expected to spend the coming campaign in Amsterdam, where his performances could determine whether the Dutch club decide to make his transfer permanent.

The winger is valued at an estimated 22 million euros by Transfermarkt. His temporary switch to Ajax also offers him the opportunity to rebuild his momentum and persuade the club to activate the purchase option at the end of the loan.

Adingra’s annual salary in England was reported as 2,130,952 euros, equivalent to 1,385,118,800 FCFA.

The move allows the Ivorian to continue his career in the Netherlands, a country and competition with which he is already familiar. Ajax, meanwhile, have secured an attacking player whose international experience and previous knowledge of Dutch football could prove useful during the season.

Sunderland are due to return to Premier League action shortly, when they face Brentford in their third league match of the campaign.
